  6. Smart Phones

Computers for Organizations

  1. Network Servers
  2. Mainframe Computers
  3. Mini Computers
  4. Super Computers

Now, we are going to discuss all Computer types.

Computer for individual Users

Most of the Computers are used by only one person at a time. These types of computers are called Single User Computers.  They are also known as Personal Computers (Pcs) or microcomputers. The six types of computers in this category are as follows.

Desktop Computers

The most common types of personal computers are the desktop computer. It is designed to sit on a desk or a table.  These are the computers you see all around you, in schools, home and offices. These computers are capable of doing any job with great ease and efficiency. These are used to communicate, play music, videos and games.

Workstations

A workstation is more powerful than a standard desktop PC. These computers are used by scientists, engineers and animators who need a computer with greater than average speed and power to perform sophisticated tasks.

Notebook Computers

Notebook computers are approximately in the shape of an 8.5  by 11-inch notebook and easily befit inside a  briefcase. Because people frequently set these computers on their lap, they are also called laptop computers.

These computers are small enough to be carried by their users. That’s why they fall into the category of mobile computers.

Tablet PCs

The Tablet personal computers are the newest development in portable, full-featured computers. They are lighter in weight than that of a notebook PC and can accept input from a special pen called Stylus of a digital pen which is used to write directly on the screen of the computer. They also have a built-in microphone and special software that accepts input from the user’s voice.

Handheld PCs

Handheld Personal Computer is computing devices short enough to fit in your hand. A popular type of handheld computer is personal Digital assistant.

They are basically used for tasking notes, displaying telephone numbers and addresses. Most of the PDAs come with a pen that lets the user write on the screen. They also have tiny built-in keyboard and microphone that allows voice input.

Small Phones

Some cellular phones have tiny PCs. These phones have special features. That’s why they are called smart phones. These features can include web and e-mail access, Special software such as personal organizer, or special hardware such as digital camera or music player. Some models have miniature keyboards.

Computers for Organizations

A computer used for big organizations are the most powerful computers. They are capable to handle the needs of many users at a time. So, they are known as multiuser computers. These types of computers are used in scientific organizations, schools, industries, etc.

Let us learn about them in details.

Network Servers

Today, the network of the most organization are based on personal computers.

Individual users have their own computers, which are connected to one or more centralized Computers, called network servers.

These computers have special software and equipment that enables them to function as the primary computer or network server.

Mainframe Computers

Mainframe computers are used in large organizations, such as in banks, insurance companies and railway stations, where many people frequently need to use the same data. These are large, powerful computers as they can handle the processing needs of thousands of users at a time.

Minicomputers

Minicomputers were first released in the 1960s and got their name because of small size as compared to other computers. The capabilities of minicomputers are somewhere between those of mainframes and personal computers. They can handle more input and output than personal computers.

Supercomputers

Supercomputers are the most powerful computers. They can process huge amounts of data. The fastest supercomputer can more perform more than one trillion calculations per second.
They are ideal for the handling large and highly complex problems that require extreme calculating power.
